Chooseday: Don't put yourself down because you are not Beyonce

I wanted to write about how annoying cellphones have become in social settings. I'm seeing an alarming amount of people out with friends or family, all sitting there with their backs hunched typing on their phones. I just imagine the child crying by the father's grave “I never even knew my father!” Maybe you would have IF BOTH OF YOU talked to each other at Wimpy instead of you playing clash of clans and your dad on Whatsapp.

Instead I chose this:

https://www.etsy.com/listing/229499427/printable-art-inspirational-print-you?ref=unav_listing-other

You have the same amount of hours in a day as Beyonce. . . This Esty listing notes it as a motivational. For a business, it's cool but most people pin this as motivation to use as a human being. Don't.

Don't use this as a benchmark for a life of a human being. Let's bring what you do and beyonce does in 24h.

Okay it's Bey's job to look good. So let's say she starts her day at the gym by the time for an hour(?). When she gets back her breakfast is ready.(That is if she's not drinking that cayenne pepper honey nonsense) Her chef made her a vegan whatever that her nutritionist/ dietician said. If she has an appearance, her stylist gives her her (probably free) gown/ outfit. Her hair person and make-up person fixes her up and in-between she has her vegan lunch/ “detox” drink. Her assistant takes like 50 pics of which she picks to post on Instagram. Because she woke up like dis. Then she goes out to an awards show/ interview/ basketball game. When she gets home the chef prepared dinner.

Or maybe it's one of those days where she does normal people work day of meetings and rehearsal/ recording. She still doesn't have to cook for herself (do you think she would still be vegan if she had to feed herself, her husband and her small child?). When last did Beyonce do laundry or had to stay at home from work to take her small child to the doctor? Does Beyonce even know where the lappie is if Blue spilt her juice on the floor? How much does Bey actually see of Blue?

You may not have the body or money but you can count yourself successful my Non-yonce. You may not gym but you cope with commuting to work. You may not eat vegan but you are buying and preparing your own meals. You have to buy and care for your own clothes, do your hair and make-up. That idiot running and cleaning after your child is you.

Bey can learn form you. ***Flawless

Beyonce, if you ever see this. Drop a comment. Would you ever be able to be a Non-yonce?

Chooseday: Redmylips.org

I wanted to write about people who get annoyed by viral content and how they should avoid the internet #loosellamas #thedress #grumpycat

But something much more important grabbed my attention that is something that should be viral and I'm willing to put my voice to. Everyone should. Men and women.

Sexual assault is not really something to make fun of tho' there are memes and comedians who thing rape is funny. For some reason it's easier for women to get discriminated against and be abused and apparently in some cultures it's okay. Recently I had to get on my feminist soap box to a Zulu friend. (Another Zulu male friend showed that he understood my stance.) Just because you have boobs doesn't mean you can't do shit.

I will be wearing red lipstick in various degrees this April. The campaign is “It's not about vanity, it's about visibility”. Girls who rape has happened to don't tend to want to talk about it. They feel embarrassed & humiliated. Ironic since that is the want their attacker should feel. The times we live in there is always “But you could have done this” You know what, the $#@@>€$ who raped shouldn't have done that. Think about that when you feel embarrassed to wear simple red lipstick. These women were physically and mentally hurt and you don't want to wear just a bright gloss to say “girls we feel you. Here is some awareness”

This is something we need to talk about. It's difficult to be strong in your sexuality if there are people out there who think it's a sign for them to mistreat you.

She didn't stand at a party/ walked home/ laid in her bed & asked I want to be raped. Okay then people are all why was she drunk? So being drunk is an invitation to be molested. Or why did she wear that dress? There are women who wear burqa who get raped. Sometimes it's even someone the victims know who raped them. Not even an uncle but a father or brother. Disgusting but true. These abominations are criminals.
Read up. . .

Now here is your chance to show support and solidarity with victims and raise awareness. Here are some things I'm doing for #redmylips April:

  1. First I moisturising my lips. I like Zam-Buk. For more truer pigmentation, sponge some concealer over your lips. If you have not tried LA Girl cosmetics' Pro.conceal, You are truly missing out. I feels like such a high end product. On top most concealers are in stick form. This is one of the few liquid concealers that will fit in you budget.
  2. Line and fill your lips with a red lip liner. This is what is going to make your lipstick last. Again I'm going to GUSH over LA Girl. Endless Auto Lip liner in True Red is awesome. (Get it here at Dis-Chem)
  3. This lip liner is super vibrant on it's own
  4. Put on the lipstick . . .
  5. . . . and blot it. I usually do 3 layers.
  6. Do that finger trick for lipstick free teeth.
  7. BOOM. Finished product. This method last 'til after lunch. I just reapply lipstick then and blot it.
  8. If you don't feel this super bright red, go for a softer red.
  9. Ombre it. This is a cool South Korean lip trend you can follow.

Cleaning of this lipstick is also super easy. Just apply some Vaseline and wipe it off. It cleans a moisturises your lips.

Before next month, make sure to get a lipstick and liner to suit you skin tone. I'm relatively neutral but have more of a blue undertone. Everyone can pull off a red lip. I once hear someone said “Not all people can do it.” Yes, all people of ALL SKIN TONES can pull off a red lip. It is all bout getting the right colour.

For April I will post my lips in support everyday on Instagram. Join and follow me @ewithacuteaccent

Chooseday: Stopping Girl on Girl Hate

It's Tuesday again. I didn't post my Thursday for Friday post because . . .
Anyway it's Tuesday and it's my post on things I'm experiencing, if it's news or just things in my life and choosing to see the better side.

Recently the past few weeks I've been experience some girl on girl hating. It's what’s always happening but me and my sisters have retrained the way we react to other more powerful, successful, beautiful women. It came down to it, it all about “just because you blow out someone else's candle does not make yours shine brighter”.

Let's use shoes:

The battle between conservative and sexy (“Slutty”). This I see on my Pinterest. Motivational pins on how you should be free to express yourself as a woman. The very next pins is about being conservative and cover yourself.

If you choose to be conservative, don't come judge a girl who decides they like a spaghetti strap top. Just like she can't force you to not where your ¾ sleeve t-shirt.

This is who this conversation should go:
Black boot: Girl you look bangin' in your red bandage dress. You're a bad bitch.
Red Heels: And I love your beautiful navy cardigan. Slay sister slay!

Why be jealous of other women's success or beauty? Or be nasty if they are not? Especially if we don't even know them!

She's got money, dresses expensively, drives an awesome car and has a hot body. Normal reactions:
  • It's her husband's money
  • Her clothing account is probably so high. She looks cheap.
  • Fake boobs.
  • She probably doesn't eat.
  • Not her real hair

Just congratulate. She probably has Britney's Work B*tch on replay. Hustling at her career, working like a boss at the gym and bought her own boobs. So what. What has her lifestyle have to do with you and how and why she has it all? Don't be a hater. New Reaction:
  • Love your hair. Beautiful style and colour.
  • Your style is fantastic. You know how to dress your body
  • Your lifestyle looks amazing. I love your car.

Same with the other side. Not all girls have the same budget and WE STILL JUDGE THEM:
  • Girl's a mess
  • Look at her roots
  • She's fat
  • Is she going to eat all that food?
  • Can't she spend a bit more money on what she looks like?
Again we don't know her situation. Maybe she is one of those creative types who are a bit eccentric. Ever thought that this girl may not have money or don't give a f*ck about what anyone thinks. It's none of your business. Make sure your own nails polish don't have any chips before you criticise someone else.

There is also weird vs. basic issue.

Weird like candy coloured hair, spike accessories, pierced faces, tattoos. . .
  • Green hair is so disgusting
  • Hello Goth grunge ended in the 90's
  • Piercings look so disgusting. They can get infected.
  • How can you get a job with tattoos like that

Humans are made to conform and as soon as someone steps out of your frame work of conformity we dislike them. They are ugly and unacceptable.
  • Do you know how well the have to look after their hair to make that green last and look fresh?
  • Have you ever looked how cool some of those girls' make up is?
  • Have you looked at the artistry in their tattoos?
  • Tell me you never looked at some of the ear piercings on Pinterest and considered piercing some cartilage.

Then there are the Basic/ ratchet girls. These are the girls who love pop culture and fall into the girl stereotype. I read up on urban dictionary that it's a female with unoriginal thoughts. Are we really going to call out girls who do these “unoriginal things”.
  • Don't you like to show your nails after spending time making them seasonal or reflecting you personality?
  • You've probably enjoyed some popular music. Even just a song
  • Of course you never enjoyed a cup of coffee from a coffee house.

All in all it comes down to accepting yourself. We have to stop hurting each other because it's not making you better.

In the end we are all the same. Different shoes, all the same size. We all have dreams. We all have daily inner demons we battle with. The girl you called basic is dealing with depression. The girl you judged for having piercings helps at a shelter for abused animals. The girl you called fat is dealing with the loss of her mother. The girl you insulted for being good looking was a victim of child abuse. The conservative girl is an owner of a successful business who could offer you your dream job. And the girl with the short skirt lost half her weight and is starting to accept herself for the first time in years.

Don't judge, just love. Give a compliment. You've got beautiful eyes. I love your make-up. Hair is on point sister. What dress are you wearing? It's amazing on you.

Unless you've walked in her shoes, don't be hurtful.

How do you feel when another girl compliments you?
